The Itch

So, for some reason, every January, I get a hankerin' for the library. Not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the weather, which is usually pretty cold and snowy, but now it's warm and brown-y.

Maybe it's the number of new books that come out?? Maybe it's because I want to buy books, but know I don't have to room, so I go to the library instead??

So scratch this itch, I've reserved 6 books on my TBR list...so far.

I'm going to try and only reserve books and not let myself browse. If I let myself browse, I'll leave with 20. True story.

Here are my first 6...

1.

- Saw this one on Lindsay Currie's blog. Looks pretty good.

2.

I found this on BN.com while searching for ways to spend an old B-day giftcard I found. But it's at the library, so yay free!!

3.

I enjoyed the first one in this series very much, but I didn't love it enough to need to own it.

4.

This was a recommended read on Goodreads. Lurve the cover.

5.

This is a recommended read on BN.com. Another great cover.

6.

Not a great cover but it comes highly recommended.

So yeah...YA is also something I read heavily in the first part of the year...not sure what that is about either.

Maybe these will help me with my new project where the MC is a teen. Hopefully, this will get me in the mindframe.

Do your reading habits ebb and flow depending on the time of year?? Are there certain genres you only read during winter??

I've heard great things about Variant. I almost bought Maureen's new book, but I told my kids NOT to let me buy anything (when we were in the bookstore) until I've finished my TRB. I must admit my kids were good/clever. To avoid a scene, I had to leave the book on the shelf after I found it. ;)

Great list of books to read! Man, I haven't gone to the library in a long time. I have too many of my own books to read as books to review. I am hoping to go back to the library eventually, though. There are some books I want to read but can't afford or want to read before considering buying.

the library in winter reminds me of last year when we all went during NaNo in the snow storm and had stroopwaffles

Oooh, cool you are going after Variant. I just downloaded Enclave, Cinder and Shatter Me last night to my Kindle so I'm up and running again. And the end of Cracked was very worthwhile:)

i've only heard of one of those books. You'll have to let me know how the other ones are.
I haven't checked out a book from the library since highschool. And it would've been at the highschool library

When I'm writing, I'm not reading as much. (And so far no seasonal pattern to writing.) Since I didn't write anything for six months, I ended up reading a lot of books on my iPad.
Hope those get you in the mood!

They do, usually. During the winter when I'm not outside as much I can spend a lot of time curled up with a book.

That sounds like me--whenever I go near a library bookshelf I just HAVE to take out something. Even though there are a gazillion books in my library TBR at home. :P

Takes me too long to read a book. And I don't like to give them back, so I buy books instead of getting from the library.

A great reading list though :)

Every time I go to the library I always end up with 4 or 5 more books than I meant to get; I just always end up seeing more stuff that I want to read.
My favorite genres are chick lit, memoirs (particularly funny ones written by women), and nonfiction books about writing. I read those all year, but then again winter lasts for most of the year in Chicago. Or at least it feels like it does.

I tend to read more in the summertime but since I've bought an e-reader, I tend to download a lot of books, but not read them right away.

I just downloaded A MILLION SUNS.

Based on the covers only, I think Misfit looks good :)

Remember...no browsing - LOL!

I didn't even now Beth Revis's second book was out. Cool! I've become a library junkie, but force myself not to get more than two or three books at a time. I've discovered some awesome books that I would never had tried if faced with paying for them. Libraries rule.

They do. I read a lot towards the end of the year and in spring/early summer.

I read in spurts. I'll devour 4 or 5 books in a couple of weeks, then not pick up another one for months. I'm currently in one of my reading spurts and just beginning Stephen Kings new one.

i don't really have a specific for winter, but fall gives me the itch, and especially for scary suspenseful stuff! i just bought a name of a star based off all the rec's i heard for it, but it'll be a while before i get it read, you'll have to let me know what you think!

I do think the winter is a good library time... the snow makes it a nice destination.

Looks like an awesome list - I'll have to look those up at my library. From the end of December through Mid March, I feel like having a book reading marathon, and the library is the only place to go when you want to do that kind of mega-reading.

That cover does look pretttty...

I just continually hanker to go to the library. I think it's because I lived 5 minutes from the library and for a long stretch of time went almost every day. Or at least once a week. I was eating books like candy. Oh yes. That's when I was unemployed. Wait. No. I don't remember. But I love libraries. My friend actually was refused the ability to check out more than 6 books once. She was trying to take out 20 and the librarian would have none of it. Weirdest thing in the world.
