Does anyone else feel like they're getting away with something when they visit the library??
It's like they don't realize how much I'm going to enjoy taking books home...FOR FREE!!
Oh how giddy I feel when walking away with half a dozen books...FOR FREE!!
I'm going to read them and love them and stroke their pretty pages.
I'm very sneaky.
I creep into the teen section and spy a book I've been dying to read.
I snatch it quickly and look around to see if anyone has seen what I treasure I just found.Phew! No one's spotted me. (probably because I'm alone...)
Oh, there's another one!
Grab it quick!! Yes! It's in my hands and no one can take it from me.
I keep the crazy giggling to myself as I grab another...

And another...

And another...

I clutch them to my chest as I creep to the scanner. I scan my card and then one by one, I scan each book. After every scan, I look behind me in case someone is watching.
The coast is clear. I slip them in my bag. I tiptoe across the doorway leading to the exit...the security gates stay quiet...the exit is so close...and then, I'm free!!
mu-hahaha! They're mine! All mine!!(...for at least three weeks)
For I am...The Book Ninja.

I know just how you feel! I'm dying to read BIRTH MARKED. I may do a library run myself now. :)
ReplyDeleteha! you're hilarious
ReplyDeletehey- is that Ghost Medicine book about horses? or have horses in it?
@Anne- I believe it's set on a ranch...I'm not positive though. He wrote The Marbury Lens so I wanted to read his other books.
ReplyDeleteYou're so clever.
ReplyDeleteLove it.
Oh yes, oh yes. For about a year, I was only buying books, and the first time I went back to the library I felt like I was doing something very wrong.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, I'm going there this morning. Ha!
I know just how you feel...shhhh!
ReplyDeleteThe cover on Birth Marked is amazing.
I love getting books from the library! It really does feel like a steal. Only legal.
ReplyDeletehee hee hee! so fun! i love the library so much! but alas! ninja i am not- i think it has something to do with how loud my children are! :P
ReplyDeleteLOL cute post. I think the importance and value of what a library provides us is so important to remember. And yes, I get that buzz when I grab a handfull too:)
ReplyDeleteI know all the clerks in our main library and a few of the branches. Sometimes it's embarrassing when they have a stack I might like ready in case I come in. :o)
ReplyDeleteLOL. The Book Ninja! I can just picture you sneaking around the library.
ReplyDeleteHehe. Yes, I fully relate. But, even with the library, I still purchase @ $100/week on books. The library is where I find new authors (check 'em out and see how I likes 'em first before I drop coin on them) and for research books.
ReplyDeleteI'm on a first name basis with all our local librarians.
Have fun with your new pretties. :)
Free books are always great!
ReplyDeleteI tend to act the same way when our library has a book sale. I sneak in and take books before someone else can buy them. They aren't quite as good as free books, but they are cheap and it supports the library and free books. :) It's a win-win.
Long live libraries! I get all those same excited feelings bringing books home from the library. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI seriously think libraries are a great way to enourage people to read when they might otherwise not do so. They serve an important social role.
...and there's so much cool stuff there :-)
I believe my methods may be even sneakier than yours. I can get books from the library before they've ever touched a shelf, and without stepping foot in the building. It's easy, for I am...
ReplyDeleteHusband of Librarian.
(Yeah, I may be sneakier, but you have the much cooler name.)
It's a pretty awesome system. I love seeing little kids at the library loading up on books with big eyes---I suspect they look just like you at the library.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Ninja Alex approves of your Ninja style!
ReplyDeleteYup, I often feel like I'm getting away with something whenever I find books at the library. :D
ReplyDeleteYou are a super supremo book ninja. Well done, master ;)
ReplyDeleteThat last one looks fantastic!
I'm kind of a loser in that I don't go to libraries anymore. I find that I enjoy buying all of the books I want to read, and if I end up not liking them, I give them away.
ReplyDeleteBut, I do still strongly support libraries and all they represent. They're sanctuaries from ignorance and illiteracy.
HA! This is wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteI know!!!! It's pretty much the best feeling ever!! :)
ReplyDelete*gigglesnort* This was delightful! I love the library. My library even GIVES AWAY books pretty regularly--got one just yesterday (they get several copies then when they get older, cut back to just a few)
ReplyDeletei haven't been to a library for years (except when we went for our write-in).
ReplyDeleteAnd all those books look awesome!
That reminds me - I need to hit our library in the next week. (Unfortunately not for fun reading - research.)
ReplyDelete@Sarah - You should frequent it often. it saves me tons of money! and space for that matter.
ReplyDelete@melissa- I know! It's totally legal stealing! I only want to read them and pet their pages for a little while. It's like kidnapping!
ReplyDelete@Lindsay C.- I have always utilized the library, ever since I was wee and my eyes are always bigger than my reading stomach.
@Tony- Yes. The library is fantastic!! The one nearest me has been recently remodeled, it's crazy! Also the one nearest me while working has been redone as well. I pretty much pass three every day.
@Holly- hahaha, that used to be me...wait, I guess it still is. You're right. AND the library I hit near my work has no late fees for YA!! So if I'm a little late, no biggie...at least for my wallet.
@Hanny- I hardly ever buy new books because I hates hardcovers so the library feeds my new release desire. If I really loved a book and want to re-read it or a certain author, I buy their books in paperback. I have over a thousand books so I don't need to buy anymore. The wallet enjoys the library.
