NaNoWriMo Update!

I'm popping in here to give you guys an update.

I'm super excited about my NaNo idea this year and things are going a lot smoother than last year. I think I prepped a little more this year though.

Note to self: you are not a pantser.

I started off a little ahead which was good because I had some real life interruptions later on in the week. I've also been writing at work on my lunch break (instead of blogging) and that's helped keep my word count up.

Also, when writing at home, for every 1k I'm indulging in one Stroopwafel.

It is just as delicious as it looks. mmmmm, caramel.

I'm loving my book so far and I'm letting myself have fun with it because it's a first draft and I'm allowed. ;)

JLP is rocking my brain! I procured a new muse just in time.

I can't wait to finish this puppy and read it through. Eeeek!

So what's been going on with you guys?

Congratulations to Jessica Bell for getting her first book deal!!! Woot-woot!!

Anyone else get book deals? Agents? Cookies??

How's NaNo or just writing going? Editing??

Talk to me!

  1. Bad news: I fell way behind this weekend, as I didn't get as much writing time as I wanted. So I neither caught up nor kept pace.

Good news: I finally got excited about this one, so I'm looking forward to writing more for reasons other than to just punch the word count clock.

  2. Fantastic! I'm very proud of you. Keep up the good work.

  3. Funny you should ask. My blog tackles this same idea. My telephone insulators are now very, very clean. Also, like the idea of Jean Luc as a muse.

  4. @Teebore- Yay!! It took me getting past the 5k point and also printing out what I had on Friday and reading through it and also having someone else read a little bit. Their excited fueled mine a little more.

  5. For me, it was when the MC's girlfriend showed up for the first time.

Don't ask me why (she hasn't really even done anything yet) but as soon as she showed up, something clicked.

  6. Teebore- hmmm, I can't wait to read it!!!! I added 4 exclamation points because I know you love them.

  7. Teebore - yeah it took my like two days for things to really click with me as well.

    DAMMIT! I want a stroopwafel!

  8. @Sarah- and I brought some to work with me today. mmmmmmmmmm, stroopwafel. *drool* ;P

I had two last night until Sam said to "ration" them! LOL! Like the world is ending or something.

  9. Like the world is ending or something.

From what you've said, it sounds like Sam lives life as though the world is ending and everything needs to be rationed. ;)

  10. That is an accurate description of him, yes. But I do the same thing with books, "I have to buy it now otherwise I'll forget and it'll end up being the best book I never read."

  11. I am so sorry - this NaNo cheerleader got hijacked at the picture of the Stroopwafel. I admit I'm a cookie-holic and now I'm drooling.
Where was I? Oh yeah, Go Hannah, Go Hannah!
Seriously, keep up the good work!

  12. Hmm...I'm pretty happy with my novel progress. Some interesting turn of events that I didn't plan are cropping up, surpassing my crummy initial ideas.

A new Starbucks opened today, but I can't go right now, because I just got more fillings, and the entire left side of my face is numb and saggy. I can barely even swallow right, let alone order and enjoy a delicious beverage.

But when the anesthesia wears off? PopPop gets a treat!

  13. sarah explained the stroopwaffle to me yesterday and now i want to nom them

i did not get any book deals, as i am not a writer. But i did draw a picture for sarah of her sea serpent, and while it's pretty static, she seems to think it looks accurate

  14. @Anne- I just had one and man oh man are they better than I remember every time. Okay, focus.

If we go writing on Saturday, you should totes come and draw. I may have an idea for you...you know, to draw for me. LOL!

  15. Good work! I love following the NaNoWriMo progress so I can know what to do when I try it...next year maybe.

  16. Hannah, you're doing great with NaNo. I realized I'm not a pantser either. I find it's much easier to write when you know what's going on, although I'm letting myself add things that we're quite as planned. *laughs* I'm up to 16,000 words over the weekend, and I'm really hoping to get close to 20,000 by the end of the day. *crosses fingers*

  17. Yay, Hannah! I'm so glad things are going well! At this point, I'm done with my NaNo novel, but my first draft came in at 47,000 words. :( I'm sure I'll get it up with some revisions.

    Good luck with your novel!

  18. Yay for things going well! I set myself the ridiculous goal of keeping up with somebody doing 5k a day. Rather unsuprisingly I have fallen behind, but never mind! It was fun to dream!

    :)

  19. Fabulous news that Nano is going so well, Hannah. Keep it up!

  20. Yay for your NaNo progress. I've fell behind a little, but I'm not worried. I just don't think I gave my poor brain enough rest after finishing the last wip a few days before. lol.

Oh, and those waffle things are yummy. I wish I'd picked one up when I was at Starbucks earlier. *sniff*

  21. Hurray for your progress! Keep it going! :)

  22. Yay you!!! :)

I'm going very slow this year. I'm being forced to do research as I go...which of course I didn't do ahead of Nov., because I was revising another project...and well, because that's not my way. My way is the hard way. ;)

Yeah, so I'm not doing my usual fast first draft...and it's annoying me. I haven't hit that place you and Teebore hit. I hope it hits soon.

I want some of those whatever-you-call-them cookies!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mmm, those cookies are indeed a good reward.
And JLP as a muse? I'd have him in a second if he fit my story!

    ReplyDelete
  24. You're on a roll...keep it up!! :)

  25. Those waffel thingies look very inspiring (insert stomach growl).

Not officially a Nano participant, but I have increased my word count by 3k which is sad compared to the rest of you, but considering the limited amount of time I've worked, I'm happy!

  26. Glad things are going so well for you! Keep up the good work!

  27. I'm glad NaNo is going well for you!

I'm still working on the outline for my newest project. I haven't had a lot of time to work on it because of work and school, but it's coming along!

  29. I want stroopwafels every thousand words! Man, you've got it figured out!

Just keep swimming! My WriMo is going better than expected, too--I think Mystery is an easier genre for me than the suspense stuff I've written in the past. It is easier to make a plan that doesn't feel so dishearteningly like a plan (a SUPERSECRET PLAN!)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm cheering you on, Hannah! *waves pompoms* Go go go!

  31. You're doing great! Enjoy your rewards, they look tasty:)

  32. I just love that motivation of a delicious looking caramel Stroopwafel to motivate you every 1K. You should market this idea to others embarking on the NaNo adventure.

I'm working on some nonfiction but hope to have my next novel up on Kindle next month and start up my new blog. I also think I should get some Stroopwafels, thanks to you! :)

  33. Keep up the good writing--that is a tough challenge.

  36. I love stroopwafels. They seem like a good motivator. :)

    Happy writing.

  37. I'm deep in revisions, I finished my NaNo already and now have taken apart my very first WiP and have decided to begin again... ugh... it can be dautning some days and amazing others.

Unforutnately no super exciting news... though I'm super excited for JESS!!! I will say that this is Harry Potter Week over at my blog, and it's pretty awesome!

  38. I love having fun with the first draft. SO many possibilities.

And those things look so delicious. I want to eat seven of them. Nomnomnom.

Comment. Please, I beg you! Otherwise, I'll just have to sit here and read my own blogs over and over, making up comments in my head.
