It's going to be a writing contest! I'm excited, are you excited? Well, you probably want to know some of the details first.
Okay so during the month of October, I will be posting on all things horror and suspense, there will be movies, books, TV shows and some scary memories of my own. It's going to be crazy fun!
What does this have to do with my contest?
If you choose to participate in the contest:
You MUST BE A FOLLOWER.
Your piece must be NO LONGER THAN 1000 WORDS.
Your entry MUST BE OF THE HORROR/SUSPENSE GENRE.
I would love for you to focus on writing something that would freak me right out but any scary story will do.
You can write for any age: MG/YA/Adult...whatever.
You MUST LEAVE A COMMENT LETTING ME KNOW YOU CHOOSE TO ENTER.
All entries must be received by OCTOBER 22, 2010 IN AN EMAIL WITHOUT YOUR NAME ON THE ATTACHED DOCUMENT. So I can read them without knowing who wrote it. :D
This will give me time to read and judge and get the finalists up during the last week of October before Halloween.
There will be THREE WINNERS:
The THIRD place winner will receive two of the following items:
Heart of the Dragon and War of the Sons
Writing Magnets

The SECOND place winner will receive two following items of their choice:
The Tale of Halcyon Crane by Wendy Webb
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Monster Island by David Wellington
Monster Nation by David Wellington
Writing journals
The FIRST place winner will get to choose three items of their choice:
Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King (released Nov. 2nd 2010)
Let Me In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
Hater by David Moody
The Strain by

I've outlined my first scary story, a Stephen King kind of thriller that takes place in southern rural Michigan. Its pretty cool. So far the people I shared it with really like its potential.

Fun contest! I pretty much love the month of October. I'll have to brainstorm and see if I can come up with a scary story... bwa, ha, ha. (sorry, I couldn't resist)
ReplyDeleteCool contest, Hannah. Wish I wrote scary stuff, but I don't. But maybe I can find a ghost story from my past if I thought hard enough.

ReplyDeleteIs it open internationally (I live in Austria)? If not, no probs, I'll still submit a story ; P
I think I'll enter. I have a scary story I wrote for my students last Halloween that I can freshen up.
ReplyDeleteI entered my link on your linky tool thing. Accidentally spelled my name wrong (it was the computer's fault, not mine -- I know how to spell my name, I swear).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this should be fun. Can't wait.
Hey, PAL(indrome) hehe :) I know, I am so spotty with blogging these days, but I am putting my WiP aside because I am sick of it and it's not going anywhere (lol) so maybe this will get the creative juices flowing!
ReplyDelete@Tessa- Austria is not a problem for the books. I'm sure of the shipping for the other items. I purchase them for you through the two websites. No matter. We'll figure something out. :D
ReplyDeleteHi, Hannah! I'll be entering the contest, and I can't wait to read all the Halloween/horror things you put on your blog this month. Halloween is the best!
